Sheer Tint Toes

OPI Sheer Tints Nail Art

I wanted to do something colorful as the days get cooler and the opportunities to show off any polish on your toes are becoming fewer and fewer.

Funky Fingers Mean Girls

For the base of all of the nails I used Sally Hansen Insta Dri Silver Sweep.  I really like this silver because it goes on smoothly and is opaque in one coat.  After that, I topped off each nail with one of the OPI Sheer Tints.  Starting with the pink they are, Be Magentale With MeI Can Teal You Like MeDon’t Violet Me Down, and I’m Never Amberrassed.  And in case that wasn’t enough, I topped every toe off with Funky Fingers So Fetch!.  The Funky Fingers has pink, yellow, green, white, and black hex glitters, along with blue stars.  When I found this polish, it was hard not to grab the others because I really do like the movie Mean Girls.

The finished product was colorful, but nothing over the top.  I actually thought it was a nice way to get color for the fall without being full on neon.

Do you like the sheer tints?  Or have the color paints taken over?

Mystery Design

Fimo Nail Art

I LOVE autumn!  I love the colors, the smells, you name it!  I feel like this red polish is the perfect transition color for the new season, and was the base for my random design that I actually got a lot of positive comments on.

Nail Art Wheels

For this look, I used China Glaze Bend Over Backwards.  This went on so smoothly and is so rich in color that I wanted to find some way to cover everything in it.

Fimo Leaves

For the leaves I used this fimo wheel.  I am pretty sure they are leaves, but they may be feathers.

3D Nail Art

For the jewel, I used these pearls outlined in gold.  This wheel has a random variety of colors.

Autumn Nail Art

The end result are these fall red toes with green and blue feather-leaves coming off of a purple and gold pearl.  It had an autumn tone, somehow reminds me slightly of Harry Potter, and people seemed to dig it.

Have you ever just grabbed stuff and gone with it, without any rhyme or reason?

Feeling Fall

Zoya Channing

Over the weekend the temperatures took a temporary dip, and I got in the mood for the new season.  I used Zoya Channing, which is one of my favorite polishes in my stash.  It goes on so smoothly, the way it glistens with hints of other colors, and the deep base color…it hits the spot.  The only complaint I have about it is the way it stains if you goob up, but I think a lot of red polish does that.  🙂  Then, using the brown, iridescent gems, I added a sparkly accent.

In the end I had some toes that are ready for fall.

Back to School Pedi

Sally Hansen Neon Crackle

I have been back to school for a few weeks now, but just now did a back to school look.  I used Wet ‘n’ Wild Megalast Whipped Topping for the big toe, then one neon toe each of orange Sally Girl Crazy, green Sally Girl Peace, and pink Sally Girl Cool, topped with Sally Hansen Crackle Snow Blast.  On the big toe I used a waterslide decal that says ABC, 123.

I’ve been working hard not to apologize for pics, but I am going to say something about the next one.  I couldn’t get a good shot, it’s blurry, I apparently didn’t clean up as well as I thought, and I have tons of dry skin from being outside.  So, please know that in person this is actually cute and fun, not a hot mess.  (And, I have swollen summer feet.  Ugh)

Miracle Gel Red Eye

This is one of those moments where you just kinda slap something on, look at it and say, “Meh.”  It’s not bad, but it’s been better.

Sally Hansen Miracle Gel

For this I just used two things.  I started with a nice, bright red polish, Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Red Eye.  These Miracle Gel polishes go on easily, the colors are brilliant, and the lasting power is excellent.  The only down side is that the lasting power is so strong, that when you goob it up, it’s harder to scrub off.  Then, I used some gold water decals from the Born Pretty Store.  With these, the application was simple.  (I think water decals may be a new obsession…so easy to add a touch of something special.)

I am going to give you a blurry, extreme close up now of the water decals, because while they are nice and gold on the sheet, they are pretty much silver after you apply them.

Water Decals

Again, not awful, just… meh.

After my holographic nails, this is just not having that stunner factor.  🙂  But, I think we have all had that happen.

Back in Black…Bows

Funky Fingers Kingston

It has been nearly a month since I posted last.  Things have been insane!  I had multiple funerals, wrapping up a school year, did my sister’s nails for her prom, etc.  I haven’t even had time to paint my nails, let alone make a post.  But, today I am making my comeback and see no bumps in the road for the future.  🙂

This is the last week of school, and the kids were honestly disappointed in my bare fingers and toes, so I am going with some bright summer colors for this week.  (I haven’t painted my fingers yet, so I could type, but if it goes as planned, it’ll be gorgeously tacky!)

Nail Art Supplies

These are the things that I used to make this look.

Funky Fingers Sally Hansen

The main color that I used is a neon red by Funky Fingers called Kingston.  I needed about three coats to feel like it was opaque.  It was cloudy when I took the pictures, but I think you can still see how bright it is.  The black is Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Black Out, and I actually only used it to touch up a place where I didn’t place my striping tape quite right.  If you can’t tell where it is, then I’ll go ahead and keep it a secret.  🙂

Striping Tape

After I got the color on, I cut a piece of black striping tape and placed it on my nail.  I tried to get them perfectly matched, but that didn’t happen.  It wasn’t bad enough to redo it, but enough for me to go, ugh.

3D Bow Nail Art

I have a wheel with small plastic bows in it.  I chose two of the black ones to place in the center of the tape line, like a bow on a package.

In the end, I have a nice bright color on my toes with an accent that stands out, but not in a gaudy way.  I felt like I wanted to add something else, but I wasn’t sure what so I left it alone.  If you have ideas, let me know.

I’m glad to be back!  Thanks for stopping by and reading!

Loving Water Decals

Spring Pedi

I haven’t been able to make a post all week, so here is a quick one to show what has been on my toes this week.  (And the weather has been worthy of sandals!)

Zoya Monet

To do this I began with two coats of Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure I Lilac You.  Then, on the big toes I used water decals of flowers.  I am really into these water decals right now because they are so easy and add a nice design without much effort.  Then I topped it off with some Zoya Monet, which is a nice spring glitter.  The purple and glitter went well together and made a nice spring look!

Antique Tootsies

Antique Nail Polish

For this, I was trying to achieve a look of tarnished, antique metal.  Sometimes I look at it and think, NAILED IT!  Other times I look at it and just think it looks like two polishes together.  Either way, I am not offended by it.  🙂

Sally Hansen, China Glaze, OPI

For this look I began with painting all of my nails in Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Golden-I.  It took two coats to make it opaque enough to move on.  Then, I let that dry completely.  Next, I crumpled up some plastic and painted China Glaze Turned Up Turquoise onto the plastic.  I then took the plastic and dabbed it all over my nails.  This was certainly a mess and required plenty of clean up afterwards.  Finally, I felt like the green had taken over, but I liked the antique look I was getting, so I crumpled plastic again and this time painted it with OPI Love.Angel.Music.Baby which has a satin finish, so it wouldn’t be as metallic as the Sally.  I think that helped to balance out the colors and achieve what I was going for.

Saran Wrap Nails

Plastic Wrap Nails

Plastic Wrap Nail Art

Whether or not I fully achieved the antique look, I am not sure.  I do think it is neat though, and would be interested in trying the plastic crumpling with other color combos.  What combos have you tried?  Any suggestions?

Spring In My Step

Spring Pedicure

I am living in a place where it is sixty degrees one day and thirty the next, so I guess I thought that some spring-ish toes would help inspire the weather to be more consistent.

Sally Hansen Tickled Pink

For this I used Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Tickled Pink.  This is a beautiful light pink that needed about three coats to look completely opaque.  Then, I wanted to try out some new nail stickers I had ordered off of eBay.  (If you aren’t using eBay to get your nail art stuff, you should be.  You need to be willing to wait on free shipping, but a $2 shopping spree will get you loads of things.  I got ten sheets of nail stickers for 11 cents.)

I am not going to say that I love or hate the nail stickers.  I am wondering if I should have waited for the pink to be way dry before I applied them.  Can you see how they are up on the edges a bit?

Nail Stickers

I want to give them a couple more tries because they peeled off of the sheet easily and are cute.  So far, after a few days of wear, they are still on there, just have those edges that I would rather be flat.

Overall, I really like the pink and still see potential in the stickers, so will give them another go some other time.

Here’s to hoping Spring weather comes in time for Easter!

Fun and Funky

Black and Neon Pedicure

I have been wearing a lot of experimental combos on my toes lately.  They are things that in my head work, but sometimes the execution leaves something to be desired.  🙂  So, in winter, when I only see them at home, I can decide how I feel about it.  These are toes I think I would do again, and maybe even on my fingers.

Funky Fingers Xtreme Wear

I used Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Black Out for the main color.  Then, the top splashes of color were provided by Funky Fingers Pep Rally.  This is a polish with a mix of matte/pearl hex glitters in different sizes, as well as straight line pieces.  There are all kinds of neon colors in the bottle.  Overall, this was an easy polish to work with.  There was minimal fishing for pieces and I was not trying for days to spread it around evenly.

Funky Fingers Pep Rally Neon Pedicure

While I usually don’t sport a lot of dark colors in the summer, I do think this could be fun to reprise then.  I think the neon would make up for the dark.

P.S.  There has a been a Five Below “coming soon” for months around me, but it finally looks like there might be merchandise coming in.  I am super excited.  I have a couple of Funky Fingers polishes from other people, but am looking forward to seeing what they have!
